Who We Are

Mystic Shores Neighbors is an independent, non‑profit coalition of property owners working to protect the water resources, natural habitats, and long‑term environmental health of the Canyon Lake region.

We are not affiliated with, sponsored by, or an official committee of the Mystic Shores Property Owners Association (MSPOA).

Mystic Shores Neighbors is a proud member of the Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance (GEAA).

Our work brings together residents, scientists, engineers, elected officials, and regional organizations to ensure that growth in the Hill Country is balanced with responsible stewardship of the Trinity Aquifer, Canyon Lake, and the Guadalupe River watershed.

Why This Matters

Canyon Lake is a drinking‑water source for multiple counties — including Comal, Bexar, Kendall, Hays, Guadalupe, and others served through GBRA retail and wholesale systems.

Upstream wastewater discharges from Kerrville, Comfort, and other facilities are permitted to add over 5 million gallons per day of effluent to the Guadalupe River before it reaches Canyon Lake.

Locally, five wastewater permits (active, pending, or proposed) would add another 1.44 million gallons per day directly into the Canyon Lake watershed.

The Canyon Ranch permit — which discharges into a normally dry creek flowing through the Trinity Aquifer recharge zone — has raised significant regional concern because of:

• • groundwater vulnerability in fractured Cow Creek limestone,

  • downstream public‑supply & private wells,

  • cumulative nutrient loading,

  • biological hazards in stagnant pools,

  • and long‑term impacts to Canyon Lake.

What We Do

Mystic Shores Neighbors endeavors to bring together:

Science‑based analysis

Our resident volulnteers include geologists, environmental engineers, and archaeologists to evaluate groundwater vulnerability, biological hazards, nutrient loading, and cumulative impacts.

Public education

We publish clear, accessible information to help residents understand wastewater permitting, aquifer recharge, karst geology, and regional water planning.
